About the Event
The Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO) Congresses bring together the experts of the world to disseminate practical knowledge in Ophthalmology, from basic to advanced. Over 3 ½ days, this event offers an opportunity to learn about the latest advances in a variety of subspecialty topics.
The PAAO Congresses are targeted for general and specialized ophthalmologists and offer an exceptional opportunity for attendees to meet the top international professionals and to learn the latest scientific and technical information.
The PAAO is dedicated to continuing education, the prevention of blindness, and cultural exchange among ophthalmologists in the Americas, Spain, and Portugal.
Harry S. Gradle MD, from Chicago, Moacyr E. Alvaro MD, from São Paulo, Brazil, and Conrad Berens MD, from New York, were inspired to create a new international forum in ophthalmology in the Americas to exchange scientific information and to develop restoration of sight programs. The first Pan-American Congress of Ophthalmology took place on October 10-12, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio.
